We’ve been keeping geese at Westaway for a number of years now. We offer a wide range including the larger exhibition birds. Many people starting with domestic geese often seem to opt for Toulouse, perhaps because the name is well known, perhaps also because of their mild temperament.
Before you make a final decision, why not check out our other breeds. We offer Steinbacher, Sebastopol and of course Toulouse varieties.
Geese need access to good grazing land with grit and pellets to supplement the diet particularly in winter. The birds also need access to bathing water throughout the year, and so can keep themselves clean. In this way they keep their feathers in good condition by washing and spreading their own preen-gland oil over their plumage. Goose eggs are huge and like duck eggs are richer than chickens' and their sheer size makes them popular with cooks
